Get Involved

There are many and varied ways to participate in Phoenix – we are confident that if you want to get involved, we can find you a role. Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, from those that commit weekly, to those who help on special occasions, or behind the scenes. Fundraising is vital to us, and we have benefitted from many inventive ideas, some undertaken by individuals, others by the business community, who kindly support us in many diverse ways.

Volunteer with Us

Volunteering at Phoenix is an opportunity to become part of our supportive and encouraging community. Your time will have a significant impact on our co-workers and often offers the one-to-one teamwork that helps confidence thrive. Experience is not essential, but a friendly approach and patient attitude is!

We appreciate additional hands in all our working departments, the concrete factory, woodshed, kitchen and garden. Like our co-workers, some volunteers like to help wherever needed and others would prefer to only support in a chosen area, either is fine and can be discussed when you come to meet us.

Upon joining, you will receive all the necessary training so that you are safe and comfortable in your role. Staff are always available to support and answer any questions you have. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. You must be over 18, happy to be DBS checked and provide a reference.

Fundraise & Donate

There are many fulfilling, and enjoyable ways you can fundraise for Phoenix. This could be anything from a personal challenge like a bike ride or a sky dive, to a bake sale or a bingo night. Whatever idea you may have your support makes a huge difference to enhancing the experience for our co-workers and the Phoenix community.

We gladly appreciate all donations and every penny is used to enhance the lives of people with learning disabilities or complex needs at Phoenix. You can find us on JustGiving here.

As well as financial help, we also welcome donations of materials, tools, appliances and kitchen equipment. We are a small charity and all donations make a real difference. For any queries please get in touch at info@phoenixtrust.org.

 Business Links

Phoenix thrives on collaboration by forging strong links with local businesses., and along the way forming truly meaningful connections and friendships.

The examples below are not intended as a comprehensive list of all the companies that we have engaged with, but an illustration of the types of partnerships that we have been fortunate to have forged:

  • COEL has been a steadfast supporter of Phoenix for many years, particularly in helping us to increase our networking reach. An annual highlight is the COEL/Carter Jonas Charity Cricket Match, a brilliant occasion, raising money for us and other local charities but also a key event in raising awareness of the work we do to the local business community.
  • Eagle Labs, who place a monthly order for Phoenix cakes, as part of their “Feel Good Friday” initiative, boosting staff morale through the medium of cupcakes and brownies!
  • Wallis & Son and Cambridge Science Centre are two businesses that support us by displaying and selling our products, pet and wildlife themed wooden products and fossils, respectively. This is so valuable for us, tucked away as we are in Milton.
  • Downing College, whose gardening team offer a work placement, helping our co-workers to develop their employability skills.
  • PA Construction, who have given two former members of Phoenix, meaningful paid work through an inclusive approach.
  • Unity Campus, who invited the Phoenix team to run a bird house building workshop at their site as part of their staff wellness programme, providing an opportunity for our co-workers to demonstrate their talents and expertise.
  • The Hill Group, who initiated our business themed bug hotels and arranged for Phoenix to talk to children from a local nursery school about insects and how important they are for us all.
  • Bourn Golf and Country Club, The Technology Partnership and currently Pure Resourcing Solutions, have all made us their charity of the year, with Pure involving their staff in choosing wonderful individual Christmas gifts for our co-workers.
  • Kier, Baufritz and Regent Construction, are just three of many businesses that donate materials to us – from pallets to paint, food mixers to felt, we can find a use for most things!
  • Birketts are an example of support that although behind-the-scenes is so valuable and valued, providing guidance with legal matters.
  • Cambridge Building Society, The Co-operative Society and Water Sensitive Cambridge, are all examples of business partnerships where our shared ethos of sustainability and contributing to the circular economy are at the forefront.
  • Cambridge Business Park is a collaboration which involves our products, but also our insights about the world of learning disability in respect of designing sites and services which, in the widest sense, are accessible for all. We are proud to be able to assist our supporters who align with our charity mission to build a more inclusive society where every individual's talent is respected.

How can you get involved?

  • Treat your workforce – Friday cakes or a birdhouse workshop – both examples of team bonding and enhanced wellbeing.
  • Fundraise – this too is an excellent group activity, such as a quiz night or sporting challenge.
  • Promote our events and products – spread the word through your networks. Invite us to visit –a big part of preparing our co-workers for employment is introducing them to different work environments. As much as we enjoy having visitors, we would love to visit you!
  • Donate – materials, money, and time – all are appreciated.
