Phoenix was founded in 2006
The founding trustees recognised that there was a lack of opportunity to experience manual work for people disadvantaged by learning disabilities. They took over an existing business, a small factory producing concrete slabs and adapted the model to provide a supported learning environment within a real manufacturing and sales setting. A scheme of learning providing a framework of general knowledge and understanding relating to the world of work has been continually developed.

In addition to being a Registered Charity, Phoenix is also a social enterprise, defined as a business that trades for a social and/or environmental purpose with a clear sense of its ‘Social Mission’. Our "Social Mission" is to help young people and adults with learning disabilities, mental health and/or behavioural issues by offering meaningful experience of the work environment We aim to raise most of our income through selling our products and services. Any profits made are reinvested back into the company to further our social mission.
