Targeted work placements at The Phoenix Trust.
Each week three young people from Castle School 6th form attend Phoenix Trust at Milton with support from a TA. Almost every year, Phoenix ‘fits the bill’ for several Castle students.
All three undertake each section of the Trust and really enjoy all the various departments and speak very highly of all the dedicated staff and volunteers. Woodwork seems to be particularly popular, maths theory learnt at school being put into practice and the result being a handsome object to sell ‘on site’ or to take home.
The kitchen is always a hive of activity and delicious meals are well thought out and prepared by the students with staff input for the rest of the students and staff to enjoy each week. Even clearing up, sweeping and mopping the floor are much enjoyed and pride in the work is taken very seriously.
Concrete production, although noisy and dirty is relished and one young lady cannot wait to have her turn which I am so pleased about as she isn’t one to like a mess!
There is a ’fun’ element to Phoenix as well, with events such as a delicious Christmas lunch and a wonderful summer BBQ all cooked and presented by students for visitors , friends and each other. This is often followed by some games and an afternoon of fun in Milton Country Park.
Throughout the days at Phoenix, students are working towards an Entry level ‘Life and Living’ qualification which I have no doubt they will achieve given the help and support by such dedicated, loyal and friendly staff at the Trust.
Phoenix is totally inclusive, a welcome place for one and all to learn and enjoy.

A Letter from a Trainee
Thank you for having me at Phoenix for an extra day its been great working at Phoenix.
I always enjoy working here with the staff with the students and the trainees.
My favourite place to work is clearly the factory with Peter and Mark but I do like doing a variety of things and my favourite things to do is all of what you do at Phoenix and that’s why I feel so comfortable when I know I’m coming here and I wouldn’t like to go any where else because I feel I couldn’t get on any where else but with you lot at Phoenix.
Another satisfied customer
I have recently bought 2 lions from Phoenix Trust for my garden. After quite a long search I had finally found a lion statue with good detail and in particular a great facial expression. I was prepared to make the journey from South Yorkshire to Cambridgeshire just for that alone. The price was also fantastic, I could only have bought one for the same price of the two from Phoenix Trust. Garden statues really can be expensive!!
I was also glad to be taking them from somewhere I thought I might get to meet the people who made them. I was impressed to read about the trust on it’s website, and to see how they give experience of manual work for people disadvantaged by learning disabilities. I very much wanted to visit and see this place for myself.
Mum and I arrived and were given a little tour and lovely hot cup of tea. Luckily there was some muscle in the team able to lift the lions into the boot of my car. Getting them into place in my garden was a pleasure. Thank you to Kate and all the team at Phoenix Trust, as much as I would like to keep the source of my fabulous lions a secret from envious neighbors I will definitely be recommending you and the work you do.
A member of the family of one of our volunteers, about the Christmas Fayre 2016
I really wanted to thank you for all the hard effort you put into the planning and running the fayre. I had been thinking about it over the past few weeks without knowing what to expect but being there on the day was one of the most moving days of 2016. I was tremendously impressed by what Phoenix offers its clients, the earnest friendliness of the staff and the number of people who turned up on the day. It was truly so special! And fun! I was glad to see my truffles all vanished – next year I’ll have to make a lot more.
